Minted by the Australian Perth Mint, the Australian Nugget featured the "Welcome Stranger Nugget", a 2,284 ounce gold nugget found in Western Australia. These legal tender coins, first minted in 1987, contain .9999 fine 24-karat gold. In 1989, the design changed and the nugget image was replaced by a kangaroo. The obverse displays an image of Queen Elizabeth II. Available in 1, 1/2, 1/4, 1/10, and 1/20 ounce sizes. | ||
